Your Thoughts May Be Sabotaging You
By now, just about everyone on a spiritual path is probably familiar with the concept that our thoughts create our reality. We have learned that whatever we focus our minds on will expand until it materializes in the physical world. So it stands to reason that is should be easy for all of us (or at least those of us who know this Universal law), to live in a perpetual state of joy, health, love, and abundance, right? Not so fast.
Our thoughts create with the energy we send out while we are thinking them. When we think positive thoughts, we attract experiences that match the high energy frequency we are transmitting. Similarly, when we think negative thoughts, we are attracting from a low energy frequency. Obviously, the key is to pay attention to our thoughts, and only entertain those that will create our desired outcomes.

However, not all thoughts are black and white; some fall into a grey area and are not easy to identify. These seemingly insignificant thoughts slip through our consciousness all day long, disguised as trivial musings; harmless notions; meaningless introspections. Many of them appear to be neutral, but are rooted in worry, lack, or some other type of fear. We hardly notice them at all as they float through our heads, so we make no effort to change them. Then we wonder why things are not working out as we would like.
Please understand that there are no neutral thoughts. As stated before, all thoughts carry some kind of energy, and many that appear to be inconsequential or unimportant have negative energy attached to them. And although you might not be aware of it, you are projecting that energy into the Universe every time you think them. These thoughts then shape your present reality.
For example, while thumbing through the pages of a decorating magazine a person who has been longing to move to nicer quarters might be thinking wistfully “Someday I’ll be able to afford a beautiful home”. Believe it or not, this thought carries with it the energy of lack, and that beautiful home now remains suspended somewhere in the future instead of becoming a reality. Similarly, someone who works for a demanding boss might think “he’s always so critical of me….I hope the report I sent him was good enough.” This sends a message to the Universe that you don’t think your work is good enough and opens the door for more criticism.

Although these thoughts may seem like innocent observations, they have the power to create undesired outcomes. Had our home-seeker’s thought been: “These decorating ideas will work great in my new dream house.”, it would have contributed to the conditions needed for the dream house to materialize. And our employee could have made a simple mind-adjustment to: “That report is my best work yet; I know the boss is going to appreciate my efforts.”, thereby sending out the positive energy needed to create favorable feedback. Being mindful of our thoughts help us replace the negative energy with positive energy, and positive energy creates positive outcomes.
Contrary to popular belief, our reality does not depend on circumstances, people, or anything outside of our minds. We have the power to shape each life experience that comes our way with our own thoughts. Even when a situation appears hopeless, we can gently guide it towards a more favorable conclusion. Understanding the subtleties of our thoughts helps us to remain aware of our what we are thinking at all times, and pay our due respects to the power they have on our lives.
