Your Thoughts May Be Sabotaging You
By now, just about everyone on a spiritual path is probably familiar with the concept that our thoughts create our reality. We have learned that whatever we focus our minds on will expand until it materializes in the physical world. So it stands to reason that is should be easy for all of us (or at least those of us who know this Universal law), to live in a perpetual state of joy, health, love, and abundance, right? Not so fast.
Our thoughts create with the energy we send out while we are thinking them. When we think positive thoughts, we attract experiences that match the high energy frequency we are transmitting. Similarly, when we think negative thoughts, we are attracting from a low energy frequency. Obviously, the key is to pay attention to our thoughts, and only entertain those that will create our desired outcomes.
“A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances.” ~ James Allen
However, not all thoughts are black and white; some fall into a grey area and are not easy to identify. These seemingly insignificant thoughts slip through our consciousness all day long disguised as trivial musings, harmless notions, and meaningless introspections. Many of them appear to be neutral, but are actually rooted in worry, lack, or some other type of fear. We hardly notice them at all as they float through our heads, so we make no effort to change them. Then we wonder why things are not working out as we would like.
Please understand that there are no neutral thoughts. As stated before, all thoughts carry some kind of energy, and many that appear to be inconsequential or unimportant have negative energy attached to them. And although we might not be aware of it, we are projecting that energy into the Universe every time we think them. These thoughts are continually shaping our experiences.
For example, when our thoughts include the words “someday” or “I will”, we are projecting into the future. So every time we think about the dream house we “will” live in “someday”, we move it further and further away from our present reality and into a future reality (or not at all). A better option would be to imagine ourselves living happily in the house today…right now.
Similarly, when we read about wage freezes, price increases, economic downturn, etc. and immediately start thinking about ways we can “tighten our belt” to “make it through”, we are accepting the idea that there is lack in the world and sending out the energy that goes with it. That energy has no choice but to return to us in some form. If we would instead remind ourselves that we live in an abundant Universe where there is never any lack we could attract a very different outcome.
“In your hands will be placed the exact results of your thoughts; you will receive that which you earn, no more, no less. Whatever your present environment may be, you will fail, remain, or rise with your thoughts, your wisdom, desire, as great as your dominant aspiration.” ~ James Allen
Although many of our thoughts may seem like innocent observations, they often have the power to either make our dreams come true or keep us stuck in a “wishing and hoping” holding pattern. The more mindful we become of our thoughts, the more we will recognize the ones that have the potential to sabotage us. It makes no sense to diligently focus positively on the things we want to create, then allow unfavorable thoughts to come in and erase all of the good energy we have built up.
We have the power to shape each life experience that comes our way by placing our attention on that which will bring our dreams closer to us. Even when a situation appears hopeless, we can gently guide it towards a more favorable conclusion by maintaining positive energy around it. The power is always in our hands.
