Intuition is our Sixth Sense
We are all aware that the body has five primary senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, because we use them everyday. But not all of us realize that we are also born with a sixth sense, and though it is less tangible than the others, it is no less valuable. In fact, many would argue that it is much more valuable. It can show us things our eyes cannot see, and tell us things our ears cannot hear. It can lead us out of danger, help us find new opportunities, and solve even our most difficult problems. What is this super power we all possess? It is intuition.
What is intuition?
Intuition is the Divine Intelligence that flows to us from the Universe. It usually comes in the form of a strong feeling or sudden awareness. An instinctive force that shares its secret knowledge with us. Most of have at one time or another had a strong urge to do something that made no sense whatsoever. Although our logical mind may have told us to ignore it, the intensity of the feeling convinced us to follow it through… and it turned out to be a good thing. That is how intuition works. It slips into your mind quietly and unobtrusively, but you can feel its presence guiding you like a wise old sage.
Sadly, we do not always trust our intuition. Sometimes we ignore these little nudges because they are attempting to lead us in a direction other than where we want to go. Other times, the advice being given does not make sense to us and we cannot see how it could possibly be right. We don’t know what the outcome would have been the times we did not follow the call, but when we do follow, we always discover that our intuition was right. It may have protected us from danger or from making a huge mistake, showed us where to find something we were looking for, or lead us to the person we were destined to spend the rest of our life with. Until we can place our faith in our intuition, we cannot take full advantage of this wonderful gift that has been bestowed upon us.
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
~ Albert Einstein
There are incredible stories all over the internet of people who followed their intuition and were led to incredible experiences; some life-saving, all life-changing. People who were directed not to take a particular flight or other mode of transportation, and were saved from certain death or harm when the conveyance later crashed. People who, for no particular reason, were drawn to a certain person who later turned out to be the birth parent, or sibling they were searching for. People who felt compelled to walk away from what appeared to be the deal of a lifetime, only to find out it was a scam that would have cost them dearly. And the list goes on and on.
Intuition does not only assist us with negative situations, it also inspires us to do great things. Leonardo DaVinci credits intuition as the driving force behind his artwork and inventions. Bestselling author Richard Bach says that his best selling novel Jonathan Livingston Seagull was not written, but channeled from above. And director and screenwriter M. Knight Shyamalan says he received the idea for his movie The Sixth Sense while meditating.
How much easier would our lives flow if we all tapped into this precious gift? It is ours for the taking and most of us don’t even realize we have it. We struggle with our problems and rely on our own minds to counsel us, but our minds are like a small flashlight compared to the vast beacon that is our intuition. As we learn to trust it, it will become the most important of all of our senses, and we will wonder how we ever got along without it!
